At a Glance - Unique 17th Century Fort Naarden is a 14th century town in the Gooi region of the Netherlands with a long, colourful history as well as famous architecture. This ancient town is home to the only fort in Europe that has unique double walls and moats. Shaped like a 5-point star, the fortifications have remained unchanged since the 17th century and include a museum situated on one of the five points of the star. Today, Naarden is a thriving community with 17,000 inhabitants with 1,300 living within the old fort of Vesting. Tourism is now the principle industry of the town. Every summer tens of thousands of visitors flock to the many cultural events held in the town. In order to better serve the local residents and sightseers, Naarden built a modern emergency call centre with all the latest communication and computer technology fully integrated with AG Neovo E-Series displays. The Environment - Where History Lives From all parts of the world, thousands of visitors are drawn to the Netherlands Fortress Museum and other fine buildings within the fortifications. Once a month from May to September, Naarden becomes a massive living history museum. Enthusiasts, dressed in period costumes, depict the lifestyles and culture of Dutch history in the 17th century. Annual events such as the National Photo Festival are also a part of the regional fare. With so many visitors converging on the town, an emergency call centre is critical for public safety. The call centre operates around the clock every day of the year providing assistance for all situations. The well-trained staff handles everything from finding a little boy separated from his family in a crowd or a stranded tour bus with a flat tire to real emergency situations. The Opportunity - Restoration and Modernisation Naarden won the European Nostra Prize for its restoration of the fortifications. The surrounding areas are being transformed into shops, accommodations and restaurants with efforts to retain the town's old Dutch Renaissance charm. Naarden's Town Hall, built in 1601, is also an important building. It is now being converted into a conference hall. With ever increasing tourism, the town council realised a need to build a new, larger emergency call centre to expand services already provided by the town's original, somewhat outdated call centre. According to the new centre's director, "The key to effectiveness lies in the training of personnel, efficient communication and having the best equipment and technology available." The Solution - Around-the-Clock Reliability The Naarden Police selected AG Neovo's E-Series displays for their modern emergency call centre. According to the department's IT systems manager, "Durability and reliability for around-the-clock service was a priority while seeking a display solution for such a critical environment like the Naarden Police Department's emergency call centre." The E-19 display was a perfect choice for the call centre because it provides dual digital and analogue inputs and is protected with NeoV™ Optical Glass. The patented hard glass technology protects the display from incidental damage while offering superb colour definition and image sharpness. The Result - 14th Century Town with 21st Century Technology Fifty-eight AG Neovo E-19 displays are in use at the the Naarden Police Department's emergency call centre. Impressed with E-Series performance, the systems integrator for the police department will soon equip its original call centre, which now handles routine inbound and outbound services, with 16 such displays as well. "We ourselves are very excited about the design and image quality," said one officer, Ron Wiegers. "Where can I get one of those for my PC at home?" |
